Mongolian & Tibetan Film Series

The Inner Asian and Uralic National Center is hosting a Mongolian and Tibetan Film Series each Thursday from October 28, 2010 to December 2, 2010. Wylie Hall 005.

The Saltmen of Tibet - Tibetan
Thursday, November 11

Observing age-old taboos and steadfast homage to the deities of nature, four men meticulously plan their grueling three-month yak caravan to fetch 'the tears of Tara', the precious salt from the holy lakes of northern Tibet.

Khadak - Mongolian
Thursday, November 18

After a plague strikes his herd, Bagi and his family are relocated to a mining town. After saving the life of Zolzaya, a beautiful outcast, Bagi discovers the plague was a government lie to eradicate nomadic life. With spiritual integrity Bagi and Zolzaya incite a revolution, but can they return to their old way of life?

Mountain Patrol - Tibetan 
Thursday, December 2

When Beijing journalist Ga Yu arrives in a remote Tibetan village, he immediately finds himself embedded in a relentless manhunt with a ragtag group of vigilantes sworn to capture or kill the poachers responsible for destroying the sacred antelope of the mountains.


All films are subtitled in English. Sponsored by the Inner Asian and Uralic Resource Center and the IU Art Museum in conjunction with the museum's special exhibition, From the Steppes and the Monasteries, on view through December 19, 2010.
